Farm Fresh! Students Harvest Crops at Farm
Sawmill Intermediate students had the chance to see the fruits of their labor on Monday.
The students harvested and studied what they planted early in the school year at the district-owned Marion Carll Farm.
Sawmill students even had the chance to take home celery to their families.
They also removed seeds from tomatoes, which will be dried and stored to use for next year's planting.
Additionally, they studied the impact of Long Island's drought on the crops, plus how bugs impact crops, and how plants grown from seeds versus seedlings grew.
Burr students will have the opportunity to visit the farm for similar activities later this week.
